Catch Report: Moulin De Bley 2007

April….

With a cold start to the first week in the month, followed then by a heat wave, we found that the fishing was almost as good as in previous years.Notable catches for April were Paul Allen’s party of 7 from Gloucestershire, who banked 94 fish for a total of 2,800lb with an average weight overall of more than 30lb.There were also good numbers of fish well into the high 40s, stacks of 30s to 39lb and 20s to 29lb falling to all anglers during the month. The biggest fish for the month was 48.6

May…..

The first week in May saw, 6 carpers take 125 fish to 46lb, with Paul Ivison from Middlesbrough banking the lions share with 37 of them. James Hall, another carp ace, and also from the midlands was hot on Paul’s heels with 34. Other notable catches for May were Mark Lineham’s party of 8 taking 142 fish from 20lb to 45lb, with good numbers of 40s, stacks of 30s to 39lb and 20s to 29lb falling to all anglers. All other weeks in the month fished very well with similar weights and numbers. The biggest carp for the month was 49.12

June…..

June continued to fish well, with all anglers still seeing plenty of action. The best week in June was the last week, with 6 lads taking 119 fish. Of these, Shane Foster and Ryan Picket from Barnett were amongst the top rods with 28 fish each, from the low 20s to the mid 40s. There were good numbers of fish into the high 40s taken during the month along with vast numbers of high 30s to 39lb and stacks of 20s to 29lb. June also saw a few of the lakes bigger resident mirrors on the bank to 54lb.Dave Bell Chambers from Brentford Middlesex, was again as in previous years amongst the 50s, and his party of 7 took 103 fish for more than 3,500lb.

July…….

Top Carp ace and tackle dealer Peter Cook from Havent Angling, Hants, was top rod for July with an impressive 54 fish from the low 20s to just under 50lb.We also noted that more than 40 of the 54 fish were over the 28lb mark. July was also a better month for the bigger commons, with some of the lakes high 40 commons turning up on the banks in numbers to 47lb. There were stacks of 30s to 39lb and shed loads of 20s to 29lb, with all anglers getting plenty of runs.

August…….

The mid August heat wave didn’t stop sharper carpers Lea Bett and Darran Jeffrey from Boston bagging up big time. The unstoppable young guns took no less than 110 fish form the low 20s to the high 40s in their all action week. Other notable catches for the month came from last years top rod Graham Hares and his 11 year old son Joe from Kent. The father and son team again took the place apart with an impressive 12 x 40s to 48lb, 30 x 30s to 39lb and far to many 20s to 29lb that they lost count.

Little Joe also did a P B 42lb common, in an attempt to outdo his older brother, who had landed a 50lb mirror on his dads rod on a previous trip. Well done Joe, we think yours was a better result.

Ian Hatley was also amongst the top rods for August, with 54 fish from the low 20s to the mid 40s, and on the same trip and certainly worth a mention was his best mate Edward Basset from Kent who took no less than 21 decent carp in a mad frantic 8 hours, with most of his fish being well over the 30lb mark. Ed finished his week with 35 fish in total. Not a bad result for the pair, considering that they had won this trip as a free weeks holiday for 2, in a charity raffle donated by Carp Runs and organised by Alan Green from one of the Essex carp fishing teams…….. Way to go boys !

September…..

September was, as in previous years, a good month with plenty of fish coming to those who put that little bit more effort and bait in than most. Surprisingly there were no real big hits, although there was a steady flow of runs every week. September saw most weeks with 100 + fish on the bank. The biggest mirror for September was 50lb and the biggest common was 47.4.There were plenty of anglers taking up to 20 fish each, with averages of just over 32lb for the month.Top Rod for the month was Steve Price from the Isle of White with 25 fish from the low 20s to the upper 40s. Luke Bell and his party of anglers, on the lake at the same time as Steve, and all from the Southampton area, also saw plenty of action and shared 130 fish of similar weights between the 7 of them. The rest of the month saw the fish continue to feed well, with all weeks producing plenty of runs.Steve Thredgold from Hertfordshire, also did well with his 25 fish from the low 20s to the mid 40s on what was an otherwise cold and difficult week. Only 10 of Steve’s fish were under 30lb

October….

With the fishing easing off a bit now, as was to be expected at this time of the year, all anglers continued to catch. Now on his 13th trip in 4 years to the lake, and his second of the year, Nigel Monk from Essex decided that 13 was not going to be unlucky for him, and it wasn’t. He took strings of fish, mostly mid to upper 30s, on what was a difficult and cold week. Nigel also landed the biggest upper 40s brace for the month during that week. Other anglers on the lake during October also took plenty of fish, with catches of 20 or more fish commonplace. There were of plenty of 20s to 29lb, 30s to 39lb and good numbers of 40s to 50lb landed during the month.

November….

The last visitors to the lake this year, and braving the cold weather, were Mark Barnett from Danson Tackle, and his 15 year old son Redford. The father and son duo finished a difficult and cold week on the lake with 20 decent fish. The pair took 6 x 20s to 28lb. 12 x 30s to 39lb and 2 mid 40s.On the lake at the same time and in the next peg was a good friend of Redford, Lea Myatt, also age 15. He took 4 x 40s to 48lb, 6 x 30s to 38lb and a string of upper 20s.Lea also topped his week off with one of the lakes bigger residents, in the form of a cracking 70lb catfish. The 15 year old tamed the beast on carp gear, size 6 hook to a 15lb hook link, and what a scrap too. Lea took the big cat at 120 yards out on a boilie, and yes Lea, they all count. Nice one Lea and well done.

Brief summery

It has not been possible to mention all of the catches on the lake for 2007, but we have tried to give you a rough idea of how it has fished month by month for the carp.

.Nearly all of the weeks in the year have again seen more that 100 carp out each week, with the average size overall for the year now being at more than 32lb.There have been no weeks when 40s have not graced the banks.

Nearly all weeks during the year have seen 1 or 2 catfish out to carp anglers on boilies, but the biggest cat this year was a 96lb lump taken as part of a12 fish haul using live baits.

Looking through our weekly catch book, we estimate that there are still 8 to10 high doubles in the lake between 16lb and 19lb.

One person blanked this year, (he was not a carp angler)

We now estimate that more than half of our 300 carp are well over the 30lb mark.

The fish continue to grow on well, and it is thought that there are at least 45 to 55 different 40s, with many of them just a few ounces away from the 50lb mark.

Some of our carp have broken through that 50lb barrier, and have been weighed this year to 54lb.We are certain that many of those 48 / 49lb + fish will show up as 50s during the 2008 season, if previous growth rates are anything to go by.

The top bait on the lake this year by far, has been Mistrals Rosehip Isotonic, and that’s not surprising, as more than 2.5 tonnes have gone into the lake since the start of the season. That’s one heck of a baiting campaign. Without any doubt the Rosehip has accounted for most of the big hits on the lake this year, and a lot of the bigger fish.

It has out fished all other baits hands down.

We would also add that we feel due to the quality natural ingredients used in the making of this bait, that it has greatly contributed to the rapid growth rate, fitness and power that our fish continue to show.
