La Traversenne

The Lake:
This 12 acre gravier (gravel pit ) is situated close to the small and very peaceful village of Talmay near Dijon.
Over the last few years some of the graviers around the Dijon area have produced some really big fish and many of them are still relatively unknown and little fished.
When you arrive at the lake you will think that you have just walked back in time some 40 years, and to say its rural is putting it mindly.
The owners have a smallholding next to the lake, and its fare to say that a few animals, mainly poultry, wander around with no one taking much notice of them most of the time.
French owners Michel and wife Alean are the most welcoming people you could ever wish to meet, and go out of their way to make you feel very welcome indeed.
The lake is well off the main road and is easy accessable via a gravel road leading right to the gate which can be locked each night.
There is a gravel track that runs right around the lake making it easy to park behind the 7 swims should anglers wish to do so.
The 7 swims are well constructed with steps leading down to the waters edge on all of them, they are flat , and on 4 of them there are 4 cabin / sheds that can be used for bad weather conditions or for storing bait and tackle in. Some anglers have even used these cabins to fish from insted of putting up bivies.
The facilities are basic.
There is a toilet and shower on site and use of a generator for charging mobile phones and bait boats.
Boats with electric motors can be hired at 50 euro for the week, but a small deposit is required by the owner.
Cool boxes and daily ice packs will be supplied for food storage, with the shops , bars and super markets just 10 minutes from the lake.
There is a good depth of water in the lake from 7 ft to 10 ft and in places there are holes to 16ft and gravel bars shallowing up to 3 ft.
There is no weed in the lake.
Fish stocks:
The lake was extremely well stocked in 2004 with more than 5 tonnes of wild carp , and the owners tell us they stocked some 350 carp into the lake.
Most of the carp now in the lake are between 20lb to 40lb but carp have been banked up to the mid 50s so far.
Fishing the lake in July 2010 for five days ,2 anglers banked more than 120 carp for well over 3,000lb of carp with an average weight of 29lb overall.
We can’t stress enough (these carp are extremely wild ), and violant takes with long hard fights can be expected from these real rod benders.
Many of the wild carp in la Traversenne can take up to half an hour and more to bank, and that’s just the smaller ones. We have been totally amazed at just how different these wild carp fight in comparison to normal lake carp, and the words that spring to mind when you hook them are words like , on steroids , ballistic missiles, and unbelievable strength and stamina.
If your looking for some really good fishing, and real rod bending action, and your not too bothered about too many home comforts, then la Traverssene at Talmay is well worth a visit.
